just another love poem

Another Type of Groove was last night. Dante Basco was super chill. He had some really good poetry, as did everyone else on the open mic. But still not as good as him. Inspiration hit me late Tuesday night and I ended up writing this poem. I said it for open mic, my first time. Hope you enjoy.

one day i took a look into my mind
to my surprise, what did i find?
a galaxy full of millions of stars
wondering what all of them are
a thought, a memory, a feeling, an emotion
all mixed up in a celestial ocean

some formed into constellations
others remained in isolation
some barely gave off any light
others shined ever so bright
but there was one so bright you can see from afar
it shined even brighter than the North Star

who or what could this possibly be?
a thought, a feeling, a memory?
i know it's something special to me
but still, it remains a mystery
just a little sign would do
just a little hint or clue

the star keeps sparkling in my mind
a twinkle that's simply one of a kind
and then it hit me, and then i knew
that shining star has gotta be you
you've got that twinkle in your eye
that fills my stomach with butterflies

now the thought of you is on my mind
i press the play button, then hit rewind
and relive the moment you were here with me
when you were just more than a memory
when you and me were a constellation
a beautiful embodiment of God's creation
